How To Register

All the information you will need in order to register for Cross Country is found on this Valley Athletic League link.  Scroll to the bottom where it says "Please click the enroll button to sign your child up for the Cross Country team."  Please make any type of donation you can to the program because it helps to fund it moving forward and it is a really integral part of the After School Sports Program. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.

Rules and Expectations

Every athlete that participates in the Track and Field After School Program needs to abide by a set or rules ane expectations. Athletes represent CMS and the expectation is that they carry themselves as respectful student athletes.  Consistent violation of these rules and expectations will result in a permanent removal from the team.

Parent Form

Since the team is typically so large, the most effective way to communicate with the team is via a group email.  It is mandatory for parents/guardians to fill out this FORM for their athlete(s).  Please take a couple minutes to do so.

Volunteering at Home Meets

We can always use parent help at the home meets to help time and measure the various events.  The parent volunteers really help us run a smooth and quick meet.  If you are interested in volunteering at the one home meet on 4/30, please make sure that you go through the volunteer process first by clicking this link.  Click this LINK to go directly to the form for Cupertino Middle School.

Team Shirts-

Team shirts have been a tradition for over 20 years.  This year we are going with a nice dark navy theme.  Team Shirts look so good at the meets- they make us stand out.  Click HERE to see what they look like.  Each athlete will be responsible for ordering their own.  We use a vendor called prepsportswear.com to order shirts.  Please watch this short video on how to order the team shirt.

Google Classroom

My primary source of communication with the Athletes is going to be through Google Classroom. I will be giving the athletes the code the first week of practice.  I will also send you the code via email once I collect your email addresses in the parent form.

Meet Results

Meet results will be posted in Google Classroom as well as sent to all parent emails.

Meet Program Order of Events

To run the meets efficiently and as quickly as possible, there is a specific order of both the Running and Field Events.  Typically a track meet will run close to 2 hours from 4-6pm.  Click HERE to see the order of the events for each Track Meet.  The running events schedule is the same across meets, but the field event schedule may vary depending on who is hosted the meet.

Practice and Meet Schedule

Click HERE to download a calendar version of the entire season schedule, including practices and meets.  The season starts on Monday, April 11th and ends on Wednesday, 5/18.  We have 4 League Meets- 2 are away and 2 are home. We then have 2 days of League Finals to finish the season.  It is each athlete's responsibility to get a carpool to the away meets.
  • Meet 1- Tuesday, 4/29 CMS @ Crittenden
  • Meet 2- Thursday, 5/2 CMS @ Lawson
  • Meet 3- Tuesday, 5/7 Miller @ CMS
  • Meet 4- Thursday, 5/9 Egan @ CMS
  • League Finals- Tuesday/Wednesday 5/14 and 5/15 @ TBD

Event Tryouts and Caps

Here is the league policy regarding each event for Track and Field:
  • 100m- only 3 heats are timed at each meet which is anywhere between 8 runners (Tri Meet) to 12 runners (Dual Meet) from a school.  All other runners may or many not be able to participate in the Away Meets but all runners will participate in the home meet.
  • 65m Hurdles- only 3 heats are timed at each meet which is anywhere between 8 runners (Tri Meet) to 12 runners (Dual Meet) from a school.  All other runners may or many not be able to participate in the Away Meets but all runners will participate in the home meet.
  • Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus- only the Top 9 athletes can participate in the Away Meets however, at home meets, there will not be a cap.
  • 4x100 and 4x400 Relays- there will be a tryout in the 2nd and 3rd week of practice to assemble the relay teams.  This is the only opportunity for an athlete to make the team.  However, a coach can replace a runner at any time during the season to try and make a faster team.
  • 800m and 1600m- there is NO CAP.  Every runner participates in every meet.
  • 400m- only 3 runners per grade/gender are allowed to participate in the meets for a Dual Meet and 2 runners for a Tri Meet.  Tryouts will be held for this race in the 3rd week of the season.

How to qualify for League Finals

For each grade level and gender, the Top 3 performing athletes throughout the season will be chosen for each event.  To qualify for league finals, you must participate in at least 2 of the 4 meets, however, priority will be given to athletes that attend more practices and meets. For example, if athlete A was a few seconds faster than Athlete B but only attended 2 meets and Athlete B attended all 4, Athlete B will more than likely be selected due to commitment. I will go over this process in more detail with the athletes in practices.

A Leaderboard spreadsheet will be maintained throughout the season and posted on Google Classroom.  It is the athletes' responsibility to check this sheet to correct any mistakes.
