"BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE"
A little bit about me....
I have been teaching full time for 18 years- 16 of them at Cupertino Middle School. I consider myself very lucky to have landed this job and be able to work in a community that places so much value on learning and hard work. I have 2 undergraduate degrees, one in Political Science from UC Berkeley and one in Kinesiology from San Jose State University. I also received my teaching credential from San Jose State University and 9 years ago achieved a professional goal by accomplishing National Board Certification.
How can you do Distance Learning in PE?
This has been, to no surprise, a common question for me. Although I do not have all the answers, I do know that may aspects of Physical Education curriculum will work well with Distance Learning. I love being in front of my students- guiding their movement, motivating them and watching them work together. However, in the current environment, I am going to adapt and continue to provide a quality curriculum. Click HERE to read about more about how I plan to deliver PE Curriculum in the DL environment.
Most of the day to day communication, assignment postings, announcements, and most pics and videos will be done via Google Classroom. It is very important that you get the class code and check it on a very regular basis. Click HERE for a list of all the class codes for each period.

California PE and SHAPE Content Standards
I am very passionate about designing an innovative curriculum based on the California Physical Education and SHAPE America Physical Education Content Standards. The California Department of Education adopted PE Content Standards over 10 years ago and they have given Physical Education content both credibility and accountability. SHAPE is an advocate for high quality Physical Education and designs curriculum and resources to help guide instruction for the National Standards.
Flipped Learning Environment
In an effort to continually evolved my curriculum to enhance student learning, I adopted the Flipped Learning Environment approach to my curriculum. When you Flip curriculum, you provide differentiated curriculum and resources to students ahead of time, often times online, to allow students time to preview what they will be learning. Most of the written homework assignments that I give require students to review presentation materials, watch videos, practice movements to prepare for an upcoming unit or learning objective. This allows me the opportunity to get more creative, innovate and deeper in critical thinking concepts in the classroom as well as set up a student-centered learning environment.
