CMS PE EXCUSE & MAKE UP POLICIES
PE EXCUSE POLICYThis the verbatim excerpt taken from the CMS Handbook:
"If a student is unable to participate in physical education, a written excuse by a parent/guardian will excuse a student for up to 3 days. If a student needs to be excused for longer periods, a statement from your doctor is mandatory and must be submitted to the attendance office. Notes SHOULD BE SPECIFIC to as to what the student can and cannot do. This will help the PE teacher to make modifications to safely allow the student to participate at some level. Students are expected to make up any missed work when unable to participate. Students who are out for periods longer than 2 weeks will be given alternative assignments to cover time missed- EXCLUDING testing runs (mile, 2 mile). Those runs will be made up when the student is physically able. During the time a students is unable to participate in PE whether parent or doctor excused, the students will be unable to participate in the after school sports program." LONG TERM INJURIESThere will be times when a student sustains some type of long term injury- fractures, sprains, concussion issues, etc. and once a medical note has been received, the student will consult with the teacher to determine what types of long term injury projects or assignments will be assigned. NOTE: all written assignments assigned to class will still have to be completed by the student.
MISSED CLASS DAYSYou receive 25 points/week for participation:
Monday = 5 pts. Tuesday = 5pts. Block = 10 pts. Friday = 5 pts. Whatever day you do not participate (absent or injured), you will lose the points for that day or days. You will have the opportunity to get points back by completing "Buy Back Assignments." |
MAKE UP POLICYWEDNESDAY MORNING MAKE UP RUNSEvery Wednesday morning of the Semester starting in early September there will be make up runs. Make up runs start at 9am by the track field. There will be a teacher out there to supervise the runs. Students making up runs will be required to sign in and then fill in a template to get credit for their run. Students can choose any Wednesday morning that works for them.
MILE & 2 MILE MAKE UP PROCESSMile and 2 Mile Runs can only be made up on Wednesday morning make up run days. Because these are assessment runs and account for a higher percentage of a students' overall grade, they need to be completed at school under the supervision of a CMS PE Teacher.
BEAR FIT CHALLENGE MAKE-UP PROCESSBear Fit Challenges can only be made up on a select Wednesday morning. After each Bear Fit Challenge, there will be 2 or 3 possible Wednesday morning available to make them up. They will be made up outside of the fitness rooms (Boys and Girls Locker rooms) and administered by a CMS PE Teacher.
GENERAL RUN DAYSMost weeks, students will have some type of run. If a run is not the Mile or 2 Mile, then there will be a specific time or distance applied to the run that will be required to complete during a make up run time. For example, the Variety Run is a mile and half SO, 6 laps will need to be completed to earn the credit. Click HERE to see what the make up requirement is for most of the runs.
These CAN NOT be made up outside of school (unless there are extenuating circumstances which will be addressed on a case by case basis). GENERAL FITNESS DAYSMost weeks, I try and have one day focused on some time of sustained fitness activity. I plan most of these fitness days to be 20+ minutes of activity time. I will work with individual students to make up these fitness activities.
OTHER DAYSIf a student misses a day or days when we do not do a run or fitness activity, we will typically be in a unit. I will work with the student to determine what, if anything, needs to be made up.
Any testing for units, group projects, or tangible deliverables will all have to be made up or produced. Homework and written assignments are NEVER exempt for a student. BUY BACK ASSIGNMENTSThere are opportunities to Buy Back points lost in class. You can either chose a 5 point Buy Back or 10 point Buy Back. Once you have completed the assignment, you will be awarded those points back in the gradebook. Click HERE to see what the Buy Back Options are. Once you choose your options, you will need to fill out this FORM. You will only receive your points back after completing the form.
